Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. On top of your password, you'll also need a one-time code to log in. That keeps your account better protected, even if someone were to get hold of your password.
What do you need?
You'll need an authenticator app on your phone. Some suitable apps are:
-
Google Authenticator
-
Microsoft Authenticator
-
Authy
-
1Password
Enabling 2FA
-
Go to Settings > Security.
-
In the Two-factor authentication section, click Enable.
-
A QR code appears. Scan it with your authenticator app.
-
Can't get the scan to work? You can also copy the secret key and enter it in your app manually.
-
Enter the 6-digit code shown by your app and click confirm.
That's it! From now on you'll be asked for an extra code when logging in.
How does logging in with 2FA work?
After entering your email address and password, an extra step appears. Open your authenticator app, read off the 6-digit code, and enter it. The code changes every 30 seconds, so always use the most recent one.
Disabling 2FA
Want to turn 2FA off again? Go to Settings > Security and click Disable next to Two-factor authentication. You'll need to enter a valid 6-digit code to confirm.
